Microneedling

A SkinPen, also known as microneedling, is a popular cosmetic skin treatment that involves using a handheld device with tiny, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin's surface. The purpose of microneedling is to stimulate the body's natural healing response, promoting collagen and elastin production, and resulting in healthier, rejuvenated skin.

During a microneedling session, the skin pen is gently moved across the targeted area, creating thousands of microscopic punctures. These micro-injuries trigger the body's healing process, prompting the production of new collagen and elastin fibres. As a result, the skin becomes firmer, smoother, and more youthful in appearance.

Microneedling can effectively address various skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin texture, and enlarged pores. It is a versatile treatment suitable for different skin types and can be performed on the face, neck, décolletage, or other parts of the body.

The benefits of using a skin pen include:

  • Skin rejuvenation: Microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production, leading to improved skin texture, firmness, and elasticity. It can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.

  • Scar reduction: Microneedling can help minimise the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and stretch marks by promoting the growth of new, healthy skin cells.

  • Hyperpigmentation treatment: The treatment can aid in fading areas of hyperpigmentation, such as sunspots or melasma, by encouraging cellular turnover and the production of new, evenly pigmented skin cells.

  • Enhanced product absorption: The micro-channels created during microneedling allow for better absorption of topical serums, creams, and other skincare products, maximising their effectiveness.

  • Minimal downtime: Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that typically requires little to no downtime. The skin may appear slightly red or feel mildly sensitive immediately after the treatment, but these effects usually subside within a few hours to a couple of days.

It is important to note that microneedling should be performed by a qualified professional, such as a dermatologist or aesthetician, to ensure safety and optimal results. Additionally, proper aftercare and sun protection are essential to protect and maintain the treated skin.
